I am excited to see what is in store for Ladera Ranch WyldLife this school year. Last year was amazing, and we were only around for a quarter of the school year!
As we start back up, I want to remind everyone what our "normal" flow will be.
Every Friday morning, starting Friday, September 12, we will be having what we call "Campaigners" at the picnic tables at Founders Park. We will be starting at 7:15am, and kids will just walk to school after we are done. This is the best thing we do. Parents supply doughnuts for everyone, and we hang out and pig out for a while and then play a game. Normally these games are not super crazy, but last year some of our middle school friends were saying they want to play messier games on Fridays so they can show everyone at school they were at WyldLife that morning... but, for the most part, these games are a bit more mellow. After the game we talk about Jesus, or some aspect of what life looks like following him. My hope here is that we can show and tell kids how much Jesus loves them, no matter what, and how wonderful life is following him. We will break into smaller groups and dig into the topic a bit deeper each Friday morning. Last year we were able to give out Bibles to kids that did not have one, and I hope to be able to do the same this year.
Starting Monday, October 13, we will start having what we call "Club." Club is best described as a "party with a purpose." From the outside it might look chaotic, but there is a purpose. We are allowing these kids to be kids, to go crazy and get wild, and we are with them as they do, loving them in their craziness, and then earning the right to share Jesus with them. We play several games, have a skit, and then end the evening with a message about Jesus that is tailored to meet them where they are. We will be having club every other week, starting October 13, at a location to be determined.
A new addition for this year will be Winter Camp at Oakbridge! We will be going to Oakbridge November 21-23, and it is sure to be something that kids will not want to miss. Oakbridge is a Young Life camp that was made for middle schoolers, and everything that happens at camp is done so that they will have a chance to have a personal encounter with Jesus, and get to know each other on a deeper level, but fun and laughter are the main tools. We will be leaving sometime in the afternoon/evening on Friday, and be coming home in the afternoon on Sunday. The trip will be short, sweet, and super fun.
So there you have it, our "normal" flow for the new semester. Look out for other events that are sure to pop up in the upcoming months, and we look forward to seeing you this semester!
